Job Description for Programme Development Officer
The Congregation of Presentation Brothers, based in Cork, is establishing a Development Office in Tamale, Northern Ghana, to implement the Congregation’s five year strategic plan for development works in Ghana and Nigeria.
For the Presentation Brothers in Tamale, Ghana
Introduction
The Brothers seek a suitably trained person to work in the Office for one year in 2011; to educate the Brothers in the Province about the principles of development and to train the Brother who will eventually take responsibility for the Office.
Scope of the work
- Information & Communication on development issues and funding opportunities
- Liaison with funding agencies, particularly with Misean Cara
- Coordination of funding submissions to donors
- Management support for development projects/programmes, in relation to initial preparation and subsequent monitoring, accounting and reporting
- Facilitation of training and of wider debate on development issues
- Support for lay volunteers
Personal Specifications
- Proven management experience, including planning, budgeting and monitoring of projects/programmes
- An appropriate qualification in development studies
- Ability to work as a member of a team in a congregational context
- Strong communication skills (written and verbal)
- Exposure to the realities of the Third World and knowledge of current development issues
- Knowledge of the logical framework as this is the new funding schemes that Misean Cara uses.
- A track record in project funding would be necessary as this is the essence of the position
- Familiarity with the ethos and nature of the Presentation Brothers’ development work
- Willingness to travel to Africa
