Pres Week has kicked off in Miltown! The students and staff of Presentation Secondary School attended a special Mass celebrated by parish priest, Fr Pat O'Donnell in the Church of the Sacred Heart.
Br Rupert O'Sullivan, the Deputy Congregation Leader, spoke during the Mass. "The challenge of Pres Day is to be both grateful and generous," he said. "We should be grateful for all the blessings we have in our lives - our family, our health, our friends. That gratitude expresses itself in the Eucharist. Eucharist means thanksgiving. So, today is about pausing to give thanks. But it is about more. We are also called to be generous with what we have. As Christians we see each other as brothers and sisters. That demands that we respect and care for others- those around us and those far away whom we don't know at all.
"Pres means Presentation. As Christmas approaches we will soon be giving each other gifts. The challenge now is to give ourselves, our giftedness, to others."
The Pres Week project is being coordinated by the school's RE Department.
On Tuesday Leaving Certificate students will attend a workshop on "Belief in Ireland Today". On Wednesday a former Pres Miltown teacher, Br John Guinane, will visit the school to speak about his missionary work in Nigeria.
On Thursday, the Congregation Leader of the Presentation Brothers, Br Martin Kenneally will speak at a special liturgy to mark the visit of the Eucharistic Congress Bell to the parish. He will also address the school staff.
The Presentation Sisters will also speak to students about their way of life.
