Inner City Community Day at Mount Sion

The second annual Inner City Community Day at Mount Sion in Waterford has been hailed as a great success by the event coordinator, Br Kevin Mascarenhas. "It all went very well and it was wonderful to see so many families having a fun day out," he said.

The event, targeted at families in the inner city area of Waterford, featured face painting, music, dancing and plenty of entertainment all free of charge.

Over 200 people attended the activities at the Edmund Rice Heritage Centre at Mount Sion, with music by the Thomas Francis Maher Band, a puppet show, Irish dancing, hurling and soccer games, trad and rock music, African crafts and novelty races.

“This event is organised by the Inner city resident Association to try to bring the community together. There are a lot of new families in the area and the event gives the children a chance to mingle and get to know each other. It was very successful with 200 to 250 people attending, an increase on those who attended last year.”

The event was funded by Waterford City Council’s Rapid initiative.
