Fun Day at Mount Sion

A Family Fun Day for the residents of Waterford's inner city has taken place at the Edmund Rice International Heritage Centre in Waterford.

The Fun Day was organised by the joint inner city resident associations. “The goal of this event was to bring together residents and families who have lived in the area but may never have met each other,” said Br Kevin Mascarenhas, Chairman of the Organising Committee.

The Committee also included local Councillors, members of different residents associations, representatives of Waterford City Council Community Services and Waterford Gardaí.

There was heavy rain on the day and the events took place indoors but even at that it proved to be a big success with over 150 adults and children in attendance.

Three local bands provided music; the Francis Meagher Fife and Drum Band, the Barrack Street Brass Band, and the De La Salle Pipe Band. Activities on the day included races, skipping/hula hoops, face painting, and puppet shows.

“The biggest hit of the day were our 15 visiting children from Chernobyl in Belarus who won the hearts of the people present with their songs and dances,” said Br  Kevin.

Br Kevin Mascarenhas also presented a cheque on behalf of the Family Fun Day committee to the Belarus children.
