The Waterford Inner City Residents Association has held another successful Family Fun Day at Mount Sion. (Take a look at the Presentation Gallery for some photos from the day.)
“The Inner city is the most marginalised area of Waterford,” according to Br Kevin Mascarenhas, secretary of the Association. “Many people living in this area are older people. There is also a lot of unemployment and many families are struggling with various problems.
“The Fun Day brought together nearly 200 families children and older people who enjoyed the day. There was face painting, a reptile village, puppet show, GAA skills, as well as soccer and rugby activities. The Barrack Street Band, the TJ Meagher Band, and the De La Salle Pipe Band all attended. There were stalls displaying food, arts and crafts.
“The day was enjoyed by one and all.”
The organising committee was made up of Waterford City Council members, local residents, family resource services, as well as youth and community groups. The day was funded by the Waterford City Council, Waterford Area Partnership, and Unite the Union.
