Br Joseph Renews Vows at Mount Sion

Br Joseph Mukasa has renewed his commitment to God as a Presentation Brother at Mount Sion in Waterford.

Br Joseph was joined by members of his novitiate community from Killarney.

The purpose of the visit to Mount Sion was twofold according to Novice Master, Br Barry Noel. “We came to be with Br Joseph as he renewed his vows and also to invite him and Andrew Saul, our novice, to walk the path of Blessed Edmund.”

“An experience of the rootedness of our spirituality and charism is significant to the process of formation,” said Br Barry. “Revisiting our roots brings us in touch with the story of Blessed Edmund Rice which informs and reshapes our own story in light of living out our call as religious men today.”

In recent years a number of Presentation Brothers have professed their vows on this sacred ground – the first vows of Barry Noel were made here in 1996, Ghanaian and Nigerian Brothers renewed their vows there in 2008 and last November Br Kevin Mascarenhas made his final profession in the chapel.

Br Barry added that “this was a special occasion as both communities, the Novitiate community in Killarney and the Mount Sion community, came together for the day to share the story of Edmund Rice, witness the renewal of vows by Joseph, share a meal together and walked the path of Edmund which is still prominent in contemporary Waterford. 

"It is significant that this group of thirteen Presentation Brothers and Christian Brothers represents some nine different nationalities. It is wonderful to experience this zeal and enthusiasm which awakens and illuminates the heart. 

“A question that this experience of hope raises for me is: “what new witness are we called to as Religious Brothers in our world today?” There is a real sense of being challenged to be a new presence in our world today.”
