The Golden Jubilee of Coláiste Chríost Rí in Cork has been marked with a gathering for staff hosted at Mount St Joseph.
Among those in attendance were the serving Principal, Mr Sean Culhane and Deputy Principal, Mr Michael Carey as well as past Principals and Deputy Principals and Brothers who served in the school over the past 50 years. Among the past Principals were: Brothers De Sales Burke, John P. Hunt, Walter Hurley and Mr. Cathal O’Corcora. Also present was Br. Denis Minehane who served on the first staff of the school.
Representing the Presentation Brothers Schools Trust (PBST) were Mr Jack O Sullivan, Chairman, and Mr. Paul Scanlan, CEO.
In his after-dinner remarks, Congregation Leader Br. Martin Kenneally, spoke of the remarkable record of Coláiste Chríost Rí in academic and sporting excellence and also of his own personal indebtedness to the school as a former student. He also referred to the close links between the school and the Brothers’ Community in Turner’s Cross over the years and the supportive interaction that continues between the two.
Br. Martin also thanked the Principal and staff for their on-going support for the Presentation Brothers missions in Ghana.
In reply Sean Culhane stated that it was one of the great blessings of his life to have the opportunity of teaching in a school with the Presentation Brothers ethos in the Edmund Rice tradition.
His remarks drew a warm chorus of assent from the many staff members present.
President Mary MacAleese will visit the Coláiste on November 26th to mark the close of the Jubilee celebrations.
