From Br. Kirwe Matthias Yelkopba, FPM, Principal of PBSS, comes this report:
The Motto of Man of War says “Be Prepared Always.” In the same vain, the past students of Presentation Brothers Secondary School, Tafawa Balewa, Bauchi State, Nigeria set their machinery in motion to kick start their annual reunion and get together for 2016. The association was in operation before I came on board but went quiet for some time. After consultation with Br. Godfred Berteyel, fpm, and some of the old students (Francis Haruna, Sumi Ishaku & Augustine David – CARETAKER COMMITTEE), I decided to invite and challenge them to “Resurrect” their association which will serve as a platform for their future academic advancement, capacity building and friendship. They gladly accepted the challenge.
The date set aside for this reunion and gathering came. It was on 27th December, 2016 when the old students and their patron, in the person of Mr. Felix Ndukwe, assembled at the school to start their usual meeting, reunion and get together at 10:00am. Their meeting coincided with Br. Shuka Zarmis Yohanna’s Thanksgiving Mass Celebration which was organized by his family for having his First Profession in Ghana in August. Hence, I joined them half way through their meeting and I was happy to be part of these young men and women who are the future of Nigeria and world.
Interestingly, members introduced themselves one after the other, and having listened to speeches presented by the Patron, Chairman, and other invited Guests, the Chairman called on the electoral committee to go ahead with the elections of new officials to man the affairs of the association for the next coming years. After the elections, the following emerged victorious:
According to the Secretary General of the Association, Matthew Denis, “The elections and handing over to the new elected officials was conducted successfully.”
A group that has no vision or direction is completely doomed eternally. The old students saw the need for a draft Constitution to guide and direct their affairs. Two elected officials and three other members were elected to make up a five man DRAFTING CONSTITUTION COMMITTEE to oversee the new Constitution put in place for the Association. These officials include
Our young men and women are indeed wise and capable of handling the association and possible issues that might affect the running of the association. They debated seriously on the necessity and importance of sources of income and funding. An association without sources of income cannot make any head way, hence, they agreed to task each other for registration and annual dues, and other sources of funding to enable them carry out their designed programmes and activities.
Remarks from the patron and principal, Mr. Felix Ndukwe and Br. Kirwe Matthias Yelkopba, challenged the old students to continue with passion and focus towards their future academic pursuits, support and encourage each other, and always be proactive in their studies, association and friendship. I thanked them on behalf of my Congregation Leader Br. Martin Kenneally, fpm, Provincial Leader Br. Francis Agoah, fpm and the entire Presentation Brothers world over for accepting to work and support their Alma Mata today and tomorrow. We wish them well as they prepare to go back to their respective Institutions or Universities in January, 2017. Attendance list presented showed that there were 35 old students besides patron and other invited guests. All that the old students will be doing today and tomorrow is “For the Greater Glory of God” as St. Ireneaus once said that “The Glory of God is Man FULLY Alive.”
