In Memoriam: Brother Denis Michael McAuliffe FPM
Brother Denis Michael McAuliffe of Presentation Brothers, Turners Cross, Cork died peacefully in Marymount University Hospice at 06.45pm on Sunday, 16th October, 2016.
Brother Michael was born to Denis and Mary (Lynch) McAuliffe in Scart, Knocknagoshel, Co. Kerry on 26th July 1923. He entered the Presentation Brothers at Mount St Joseph, Cork in 1940. He made his First Profession of Vows in 1942 and his Final Profession in 1946.
He is survived by his sister-in-law, Nell; nephews and nieces; grandnephews and grandnieces; relatives and friends; and his Presentation Brothers Community. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Michael, Séamus and Anthony; his sister, Kitty (Sister Mary Kiernan).
Brother Michael was educated at Knocknagoshel National School, Knocknagoshel, Co. Kerry; Coláiste Muire, Douglas Road, Cork; De La Salle College, Waterford and University of Ottawa, Ottawa, Canada. He taught in Scoil Mhuire na Mainistreach, Killarney, Co. Kerry; St John’s National School, Kinsale, Co. Cork; Point St. Charles School, Montreal; Daniel O’Connell School, Montreal; Presentation School, Montebello; St Michael’s School, Montreal; St Patrick’s Academy, Sherbrooke; St Aloysius School, Montreal and La Fleche School, Longueuil. He retired from teaching in 1981.
Brother Michael served as Community Leader at Longueuil and Community Bursar at Sherbrooke, Montebello, Pie Neuf, Longueuil, Daniel O’Connell and Verdun.
Requiem Mass took place at Christ the King Church, Turners Cross, Cork on 20th October, 2016 followed by Burial at Mount St Joseph, Blarney Street, Cork. The homily given by Br Martin at the Mass can be read here.
