Venue: Callan & Mt Sion
Thirty pilgrims of all ages - from both Cork and Dublin - braved the elements this past weekend for a journey in the footsteps of the Presentation Brothers' founder, Blessed Edmund Rice.
Despite widespread flooding overnight in Cork, the busload of pilgrims left Mardyke House just after 8.30am, with their Dublin counterparts departing Glasthule at the same time.
This wonderful, prayerful community gatehred together in Callan, Co Kilkenny just before 11am, for a tour of Blessed Edmund's birthplace, along with a presentation on the beautiful stained glass icon which so wonderfully celebrates his life.
The buses then departed for Mount Sion in Waterford, where there was a tour of the museum, and time around Blessed Edmund Rice's tomb. A hearty, hot lunch was warmly welcomed by the pilgrims, before time of prayer preceded a beautifully intimate Mass in Mount Sion's chapel. Celebrated by Fr Jim O'Connell, the Mass included some of younger pilgrims reading the prayers of the faithful.
Finally, Br Andrew Hickey gave a short but inspiring talk about how we each can live out the inspiration of Blessed Edmund Rice in our everyday lives, before the buses arrived safely back home in the early evening.
