From Br. Cletus Gubil Carlton of the West African Province comes this report:
The Leadership of the Presentation Brothers of West Africa Province recently organized an annual retreat for the temporary professed Brothers at the Pastoral Centre, Tamale in the Catholic Archdiocese of Tamale from July 23rd to 29, 2017.
The one-week retreat was directed by the immediate past Provincial Superior of the Missionaries of Africa (White Fathers) of Ghana -Nigeria Province, Father Dominic Apee.
The retreat ended at 5pm on July 29, with the celebration of the Holy Eucharist and renewable of vows. In all, ten temporary professed Brothers renewed their vows which was received by Brother Emmanuel Aminenta, Province Leader and witnessed by Br. Francis Xavier Agoah, Congregation Leader. Br. Shuka Zarmis could not join his colleagues in the retreat and therefore, renewed his vows in Nigeria. Br. James Songutu Awiah, the community leader, received his vows.
In a homily, Fr.Dominic Apee reminded the young Brothers about their call and commitment to live out the evangelical counsels in an authentic way, being conscious of the signs of the time. He said wherever there are consecrated people, joy must radiate from their countenance as they are witness the Gospel values of Christ among the people. Joyfulness, prayerfulness and gratefulness must be the hallmarks of Consecrated Religious.
Fr. Dominic then gave a brief but very inspiring comment on the Evangelical Counsels.
In a concluding remark to end his homily, he entreated the young Brothers to always have a discerning heart when making choices in their lives by looking beyond their own egocentric desires by embracing the cooperate needs of the whole Congregation. “As young Brothers, you must all remain focussed on eternal things rather than material possessions can lead to unhealthy competition and conflict and sin in Religious communities”.
In a short address, the Congregation Leader congratulated the young Brothers on their renewal of vows and challenged them to go forth and live out their vowed commitment in accordance with the Presentation way of life and traditions guided by the Spirituality of compassion, presence and liberation and a true reliance on Divine Providence.
We continue to thank God for his blessings on us with worthy vocations. This year, two of our young Brothers will make final profession of vows. We are hoping to have 5candidats beginning their postulancy in the formation house in Gboko, Nigeria and 4 doing same in Navrongo, Ghana.
