"We assure you of our prayer as we continue on pilgrimage towards our final goal - life with God in the glory of heaven." - Br Rupert.
Seven of our Brothers returned to Mount St Joseph in Cork yesterday (Tuesday 12th August) to renew their religious vows, several decades after the knelt in the Generalate chapel to make their first professions as Presentation Brothers.
Our Jubilarians this year are:
- Br Nilus O'Regan (Platinum, 70 years of religious life)
- Br Germanus Noonan, Br Bernard Murphy, Br Mark Fitzpatrick, Br Majella Burke (Diamond, 60 years of religious life)
- Br Hugh Sweeney & Br James O'Donovan (Golden, 50 years of religious life)
Mass was celebrated by Fr Aidan Vaughan OFM Cap and attended by dozens of Brothers from around Ireland who had gathered to pray in thanksgiving and petition for their confréres.
In his reflection read during the Mass (Read here (pdf)), the deputy Congregation Leader, Brother Rupert O'Sullivan, quoted Pope Francis in encouraging the Brothers to return to "the joy of the moment when Christ first looked at me".
"Christ did this in places like Kilmeady, Ballynabrocken, Rosmackowen, Ballinamona, Whitegate, Tuamgranell & Kilbritten.
Christ looked at you and you said yes, yes to a call to love - You did not have to wait to come to Religious Life to learn about love, community, faith, or about vocation, generosity or concern for those in need; it was a natural development of who you were and where you came from. And so, we remember and give thanks for your parents, your families and friends – the people, who loved you, nurtured you, supported you in your vocation and taught you your first lessons in the faith."
Each Jubilarian renewed his vows using this formula...
In the name of the Most Holy Trinity, Father, Son and Holy Spirit, I Brother N. renew in the presence of this community the vows of poverty, chastity and obedience that I made at my profession.
By these vows,
I commit myself to sharing my gifts and talents in community and in ministry
I commit myself to live simply and in the spirit of gratitude
I commit myself to listen to the call of God in prayer, in people and events of my life and especially in the fraternity of my Brothers
Relying on the faithfulness of God and the love and friendship of those here present, I promise to observe these commitments in this Congregation of the Presentation of Our Lady, founded by Blessed Edmund Rice for the Christian formation of the young and the poor.
I thank God this day for the gift of life, of faith, of family and friends and for the gift of this vocation. I ask for the protection and blessing of Mary, Our Lady of the Presentation, as I continue this journey in faith and this adventure in hope. I most earnestly beg grace through the infinite merits of our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ, to fulfil these obligations.
We pray good health and every blessing on our Jubilee Brothers.
